SENIOR AGRICULTURAL ECONOMIST / ANALYST

This role is critical for identifying risks and opportunities in both agricultural markets and broader economic contexts, enabling us to make strategic, data-driven decisions to maintain our market leadership and drive profitability.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Market Analysis and Risk Assessment:
  • Conduct in-depth analyses of global and local agricultural markets, including supply, demand, price trends, and emerging opportunities.
  • Examine global and local economic trends, assessing their implications for agricultural and trading sectors.
  • Identify and evaluate risks and opportunities within commodity trading markets, delivering actionable insights to minimize risks and capitalize on growth opportunities.
  • Monitor economic and climate indicators affecting agricultural commodity trends and production cycles.
  1. Strategic Planning and Forecasting:
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize trading opportunities and profitability, addressing variables like weather patterns, geopolitical shifts, and market demand fluctuations.
  • Maintain forecasts to support trading strategies, decision-making, and long-term planning.
  • Research and advise on opportunities to participate in the value chain from farmer to consumer. This may involve investment in startups or buying existing successful concerns.
  1. Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Collaborate with senior management, traders, and other stakeholders to align economic insights with trading / business strategies.
  • Present findings, market trends, and risk analyses to key stakeholders in a clear and actionable manner.
  1. Policy and Regulatory Insights:
  • Stay abreast of global and local agricultural policies, regulations, and legislative developments.
  • Assess the impact of legislative changes, if any, on trading activities and recommend strategies to ensure compliance while optimising business outcomes.

 

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:

  • BCom degree (or higher) in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in the agricultural and trading environment.
  • Proven track record in commodity trading or a related field, with strong exposure to international markets.
  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills, with expertise in economy and forecasting.
  • In-depth knowledge of global and local agricultural markets, trading dynamics, and risk management principles.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong leadership skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

LOGISTICS COORDINATOR

Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities:

 

  • Establish relationships with transporters, suppliers and customers.
  • Adhering to the conditions of a transport contract and company regulations.
  • Negotiate pricing with transporters.
  • Compile transport load confirmations.
  • Follow up trucks to determine accurate ETA.
  • Keeping counterparties informed about the status of trucks.
  • Identify important role players and build positive relationships at loading and off-loading points.
  • Capture load data on system.
  • Allocating supplier and transport invoices to correct loads.
  • Collecting of POD’s.
  • Weekly planning of loading dates and stock delivery.
  • Handling of client, transport and supplier related queries.
  • 24/7 contact with all relevant parties.

 

Qualifications / Experience / Skills:

 

  • A Diploma or Degree in Logistics / Supply Chain Management or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years experience in a agricultural commodity logistics field will be beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure.

CONTRACT ADMINISTRATOR / TRADE ACCOUNTANT

Job Summary:

 

Provide support in handling various purchases, sales, and freight of commodities.  Tasks typically include inputting transactions into system, troubleshooting concerns on various transactions and loads, working with customers, and monitoring accounts receivable and payable.  May work on special projects as needed.  Prepare reporting for trading desk.  Ability to understand business and operate/maintain the business systems applications.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Coordinate invoicing and inventory control for all assigned loads
  • Maintain contact with assigned customer accounts
  • Data entry and management of all assigned customer orders and loads
  • Manage assigned customer problems with load queries
  • Maintain current and up to date daily and various customer/management reports
  • Demonstrate regular attendance and timeliness in reporting to work
  • Accounts receivables and problem resolution

 

Other Job Functions:

 

  • Sales and accounting support as assigned
  • Other general administrative duties as assigned
  • Reconciliations of debtors and creditors
  • Truck check ins and contract specifications
  • Loading and offloading instructions and arrangements

Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills:

 

  • Qualification in Accounting / Administration and/or equivalent professional work experience in related field required.

  • Strong Microsoft Office Excel skills preferred
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • 2+ years’ experience in a trading environment preferred, or 4+ years in a business environment
